feast of pentecost | SHAVOUT IN THE HEBREW MEANING WEEKS

beginning on Sunset may 19 to nightfall may 21

This Biblical feast takes place exactly seven weeks and one day, or 50 days after the Feast of Firstfruits. The Greek word “Pentecost” means fifty. It was also a harvest festival, where Israelites presented an offering of new grain in the temple. Moses received the Law on Mount Sinai exactly 50 days after Firstfruits. The receiving of the law is also celebrated on this day. An extremely significant event occurred in the New Testament times on the Day of Pentecost – the Holy Spirit fell with tongues of fire and supernatural languages. It took place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus (Yeshua) on Firstfruits, and was the birth of the church, or body of Messiah. For Christians, Pentecost marks the “firstfruits” of the new covenant – the first believers in the church of Jesus Christ. It also celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit so the law could be written, not on tablets of stone, but on our hearts.
